How was it created?
Its created in Florence, Italy in the 1920s at the casoni bar, when a costumer Count Camillo Negroni asked a bartender to add gin to his regular Americano ( sweet vermouth , campari , soda water) but now days its served without soda.
How about a Negroni Sbagliato? that’s really interesting because many bartender can make a cocktail negroni but have no idea what’s a Negroni Sbagliato. Let’s take a look how a “Sbagliato” which means (mistaken) turned up to be a world famous cocktail.
Who created a twist on the cocktail negroni?
This drink was founded and created under funny circumstances. The Negroni Sbagliato , was an accidental cocktail created by Mirko Stocchetto at the Bar Basso , Milan around 1969-1970. Mirko accidentally added sparkling wine instead of gin while making a Negroni for a costumer. He was going to throw away the cocktail but the costumer asked “wait, please let me try it” they gave it a try and the cocktail was born, quickly becoming the house speciality and the bar’s signature cocktail. At Bar Basso in Milan you can still have a Negroni Sbagliato.
Which recipe do our bartenders use?
We simply follow this steps.
- We pour into a shaker the following ingredients.
- Campari 25ml
- Sweet vermouth 25ml
- Gin 25ml
We then use a throwing technique, we pour into a Rock glass full of ice and we garnish it with an orange zest.
As you can see, the ingredients are only 3, but as we always say the best cocktails are the ones with less ingredients.
